My grandparents lived on a Hatteras MY in NPB Marina. One spring break, my parents, brother and I rented a small cat on the other side of Lake Worth and attempted to surprise the grandparents by sailing into the marina. Somehow, I'm still not sure how, my father ended up standing on the west wall of the ICW, just outside the marina. I think we had been tacking forever, and he decided to "PULL" us up toward the bridge so we could coast into the marina. It will come as no surprise that he lost hold of the line and my mother, brother and I went careening into the rocks on the east side of the ICW. All this as my dad does the breast stroke over to join us. That would be enough - wouldn't it? But NO!! We abandon the original goal of making into the marina and accept a generous offer from a friendly MY to be towed back onto the lake. <BR/>They leave us off near a little isle in the middle of the lake. We wait while my dad tries to get us ready to head back to the rental base. At one point, he mumbles about a pin dropping. We push off and shortly thereafter hoist the sails. Things went really well for about 2 minutes. Then... then... the mast completely crashes, landing straight down the middle of the canvas, miraculously not harming any of us. We scramble to grab the wet sails and wait (in disbelief) for our second tow in an hour. We tied up in some old lady's private slip and crashed her tea party while we called the boat rental guys. I still can't believe it really happened!!TLilyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08117370453658719389noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7533222874425432014.post-4981117972166487942009-02-25T18:36:00.000-05:002009-02-25T18:36:00.000-05:00Good to see you guys are having fun.
